(Anita) An open burn ban is in place for Cass County, but campfires at Lake Anita State Park are still allowed.
As long as fires are contained in an approved ring, they can still take place. Park Manager Josh Peach says, “I worked with the Anita Fire Chief and as long as it’s in a contained fire ring then it’s legal to have out here. It’s not going to change us a whole lot.”
Peach notes they are well aware of the conditions. “With the much drier weather that we’ve been having it is a concern. We check on campers and ask that when they go to bed or leave the campsite then they put their fires out and douse them with water so we don’t have to worry about an accident happening.”
He says they make sure to keep things well mowed anywhere that they have fire rings and they have fire breaks such as roads and the lake surrounding them.
