(Atlantic) A small group of farmers recently approached Atlantic Mayor Dave Jones in regards to donating some money to build a Splash Pad.
Mayor Jones, during his report at Wednesday’s City Council meeting, said local farmer Alan Zellmer inquired what he and this group could do to bring this project to fruition. “He is considering donating money from his annual tractor pulls, “said Jones. “I told him we need to form a group and start investigating ways we can get this done. But we’re still in the early stages with this idea.”
Mayor Jones recalled how the City built the YMCA not because the Council wanted it, but because a group of Atlantic citizens gathered and got it done, and it turned out good.
Jones says two groups need to work on the proposed Splash Pad-the Park and Rec. Department and the Nishna Valley Family YMCA.“The City budget is tight right now, but we’re looking at some angles that might work, but I don’t want to divulge those ideas at present,” explained Jones. “If we’re going to build a Splash Pad, let’s have the best Splash Pad in southwest Iowa. That’s my goal.”
Also, during his report, the Mayor said Trick-or-Treating is slated for October 31, if it is allowed in the City. More information on this will be released as Halloween approaches.
