(Des Moines) You can thank the “Super” El Niño weather system in the Pacific Ocean for the warm, wet weather Iowa’s seen so far this fall.
Iowa State Climatologist Justin Glisan was a guest on [[ WHO/WMT/WOC’S]] Radio’s “The Big Show.” If the historical pattern holds, Glisan says the “Super” El Niño will also bring warm, wet winter weather. He says Iowa may see less snow, but more rain and “mixed” precipitation like sleet and ice.
Glisan said more rain and less snow is expected this winter.
Glisan said the weather should not severely impact harvests.
Again, that is State Climatologist Justin Glisan.
