Iowa Libertarian Party Meets Tonight To Choose New Lieutenant Governor Nominee
(Des Moines, IA) — The Iowa Libertarian Party will meet tonight to choose a new candidate for lieutenant governor. That follows the withdrawal of Nicholas Gluba’s [[ GLUE-buh’s ]] running mate, Jules Cutler. Gluba says Cutler, who lived in the former Soviet Union, is dealing with PTSD tied to that country’s political system. Last month, a judge ruled Cutler was disqualified from the ballot over improperly filed paperwork. The party will meet virtually at 8 p.m. to nominate Cutler’s replacement.
Iowa Attorney General’s Office Teaming up with Meta to Combat Scams
(Des Moines, IA) — The state of Iowa is partnering with tech giant Meta in a campaign to fight scams on social media. The Iowa Attorney General’s Office will join Meta in a new public service announcement campaign aimed at combating romance, investment and user support scams that target social media users. Last month, the Iowa AG’s Office and Meta conducted several joint training sessions with Iowa law enforcement on tools to combat cybercriminals. The Federal Trade Commission estimates that Americans lost nearly 16-billion dollars to online fraud last year.
The 2026 Iowa State Fair Starts Tomorrow, Iowa State Fair Parade Is Tonight
(Des Moines, IA) — The 2026 Iowa State Fair kicks off tomorrow. It’ll be fairgoers’ first chance to try more than 80 new fair foods and 45 new drinks. Thursday’s Grandstand Act will be HARDY and opener McCoy Moore, with a drone and fireworks show to follow. The fair will run through August 23. Tonight, the Iowa State Fair Parade will go through downtown Des Moines, starting at the State Capitol Complex and traveling west down Grand Avenue.
Wednesday Marks 42nd Anniversary Of Disappearance Of Eugene Wade Martin
(Des Moines, IA ) — Today marks 42 years since Eugene Wade Martin disappeared while delivering newspapers in Des Moines. The 13-year-old was last seen around 5:30 the morning of August 12th, 1984 on the city’s southside. His paper bag turned up outside the city with newspapers still inside. Eugene has never been found. He would now be 55-years-old. It was two years earlier that Johnny Gosch disappeared from West Des Moines on September 5th, 1982.
Des Moines Police Announce Large Drug Seizure
(Des Moines, IA) — Des Moines Police say a months-long investigation led to a large drug seizure and an arrest. DMPD says officers served a search warrant at a home on the city’s east side Monday night and seized more than 13 pounds of illegal drugs. Police say 51 year-old Aaron Frank was taken into custody and charged with multiple offenses, including several felonies. DMPD says the home is directly across from the Iowa State Fairgrounds and the arrest and drug seizure came just days before the fair’s opening day.
