(Des Moines) Gov. Kim Reynolds has proclaimed August 10-14, 2026, as Safe + Sound Week in Iowa.
According to the press release, the Iowa Occupational Safety and Health Administration (IOSHA), a Division of the Iowa Department of Inspections, Appeals, and Licensing (DIAL), recognizes the statewide initiative that aligns with the nationwide Safe + Sound Week led by the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
Safe + Sound Week highlights effective workplace safety and health programs and encourages employers and workers to take steps to prevent workplace injuries and illnesses.
The initiative focuses on three key elements of effective safety programs: management leadership, active worker participation, and a systematic approach to identifying and addressing workplace hazards.
“Identifying hazards early, evaluating risks, and removing or controlling hazards before they cause harm are essential to preventing workplace injuries and illnesses,” the proclamation states.
Safety and health professionals across Iowa provide training and education to help workers identify hazards. They also work with management to address risks and support safety committees in problem-solving and implementing corrective actions.
DIAL encourages Iowa employers and workers to participate in Safe + Sound Week and strengthen their commitment to safe and healthy workplaces.
“Every employee plays a vital role in this process by looking out for one another and promoting safe conditions,” said DIAL Interim Director Aaron Baack.
The Iowa Department of Inspections, Appeals, and Licensing protects the health and safety of Iowans through regulation and oversight of health care, food, gaming, building and construction, and labor practices; professional licensure; application of administrative law; and investigation of Medicaid and welfare fraud.
