(Pottawattamie Co.) The Pottawattamie County Board of Supervisors signed a proclamation designating August as Emergency Management Awareness Month.
Pottawattamie County Emergency Management officials said the month is an opportunity to let the community know more about what Emergency Management does.
The awareness month also serves as a precursor to September, which is Preparedness Month. Pottawattamie County will host its annual Preparedness Fair on September 17 from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.

The proclamation recognizes the work of emergency managers who prepare for, respond to and help communities recover from emergencies and disasters. Officials say emergency managers play an important role in protecting lives, property and the environment while helping communities become more resilient.
The county is recognizing Emergency Management Awareness Month in conjunction with National Preparedness Month in September and encourages residents to appreciate the emergency managers who work to prepare and protect the community from hazards and risks.
