(Harlan) The Harlan Community School District is changing its class start time beginning with the 2026-27 school year.
According to a district social media post, the change will apply district-wide. Classes will begin at 7:50 a.m., while the end of the school day will remain unchanged at each building.
School officials say the 10-minute earlier start adds approximately four full days of instructional time over the course of the school year.
The additional instructional time will also provide the district with greater flexibility when dealing with weather-related closures and school events, without requiring the district to extend the school year.
The district says the change is intended to provide additional instructional time while maintaining the current end-of-day schedules for students and families.
