(Red Oak) Montgomery County Engineer Karen Albert, appearing before the board of supervisors this morning, said the annual County Engineer’s report to the Iowa Department of Transportation for the 2025-2026 fiscal year may not meet the September 15 deadline.
Albert says the annual report takes nearly two months to complete depending on the number of projects.
Albert says she has spoken with the County Auditor and Treasurer regarding her concerns.
County Treasurer Jackie Porter says they have run into some unforeseen difficulties during the software conversion process that have caused some of the delays. Porter has reached out to a certified public accountant who will be in-house next week to help with the reconciliations. Porter and Jill Ozuna have been working together to get caught up.
The report provides the Iowa DOT with information about the county’s secondary-road system, work performed, and financial activity during the fiscal year. This information is due to the DOT by September 15. Albert says depending on how late the report is submitted, the DOT can withhold road use tax to the county. Albert says the Road Use Tax makes up about two-thirds to three-fourths of the county’s secondary roads budget.
