(Des Moines) Southwest Iowa is under a Marginal Risk, or Level 1 out of 5, for severe weather today and Saturday.
The National Weather Service says several rounds of thunderstorms are expected across Iowa this weekend, with the timing and location of each round dependent on how earlier storms develop and move through the state.
For today, thunderstorms are expected to develop across northern Iowa by mid-morning before moving south and east through the afternoon. There remains some uncertainty regarding how far west the storms will extend.
The strongest storms today could produce isolated strong wind gusts and large hail.
Additional thunderstorms are possible Saturday afternoon and evening. However, the exact timing and location of Saturday’s storms will depend on how today’s storms progress.
Strong winds and heavy rainfall will be possible with Saturday’s storms.
