(Atlantic, IA) — Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig and Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley are congratulating Atlantic’s Glen Smith following his confirmation by the U.S. Senate to serve as Under Secretary for Rural Development within the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Naig says Smith’s confirmation is great news for rural Iowa and rural America. He calls Smith a lifelong Iowan with a distinguished record of supporting agriculture and investing in rural businesses, infrastructure and communities.
Naig says Smith understands that strong rural communities are essential to a strong agricultural economy and adds that he looks forward to working with Smith to keep rural Iowa growing.
On X, Senator Grassley says about Smith, “He knows rural Iowa + how 2 help farm families I look forward working with him to support Rural America aka the people who feed and fuel the world.”
Glen R. Smith was designated FCA board chairman and CEO of the Farm Credit Administration by President Donald Trump on July 17, 2019. He served in this position until Oct. 21, 2022. Mr. Smith has been a member of the FCA board since December 2017.
In 1982, Smith and his wife, Fauzan, moved back to Atlantic and started farming and developing his ag service business. Today, their family farm, Smith Generation Farms Inc., has grown to encompass about 2,000 acres devoted to corn, soybeans, hay, and a small beef cow herd.
The Smiths have four grown children and six grandchildren. Three of their children are directly involved in production agriculture. Their son Peter has assumed managerial responsibilities for both the family farm and business.
