(Des Moines, IA) — Iowa is one of six additional states linked to a multistate outbreak of cyclosporiasis tied to recalled shredded iceberg lettuce. NBC News cites the Centers for Disease Control as more than 22-thousand confirmed or suspected cases are reported nationwide. The Food and Drug Administration says most illnesses have been traced to recalled Taylor Farms lettuce served at restaurants, including Taco Bell. Two-hundred-26 cases have been reported in Iowa as of July 30.
Iowa Utilities Commission Adopts New Rules For Large-Scale Projects
(Des Moines, IA) — The Iowa Utilities Commission adopts new rules for large-scale transmission projects. The new rules prohibit the construction of structures that require stabilizing wires attached to the ground on pastures or cropland unless the landowners approves, establishes an audible noise limit, and limits the electric field strength when measured one meter off the ground. The IUC says the new rules were developed after input from farmers, industry stakeholders, and consumer and environmental advocates.
Iowa HHS Reports First West Nile Virus Case This Year
(Des Moines, IA) — The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services is reporting the first West Nile virus case identified this year. Iowa HHS says the infected person is an adult from eastern Iowa. A test from the State Hygienic Laboratory confirmed the infection. Iowa HHS says the virus is spread to humans primarily through bites from infected mosquitoes. There were 57 confirmed cases of West Nile virus in Iowa in 2025.
Hinterland Announces 2027 Festival Dates, Returns To 3 Days
(St. Charles, IA) — The dates for the 2027 Hinterland festival have been announced, less than a week after this year’s festival wrapped up. The 12th annual Hinterland will return to a three-day festival from July 30 – August 2, 2027. During this year’s festival, attendees were able to experience a new, permanent stage, and new offerings like the HinterMarket and interactive experiences. The 2027 festival lineup will be announced at a later date.
Judge Denies Alleged Ped Mall Shooter Request For Separate Trial
(Iowa City, IA) — A Cedar Rapids teen accused in the Iowa City ped mall shooting will not get his own trial. A Johnson County judge denied a motion requesting Damarian Jones be tried separately from the other teen accused in the shooting. Eighteen-year-old Jones is charged with attempted murder after five people were shot near the University of Iowa Campus in April. Ka’mari Dozier, also 18, is charged with giving Jones the gun. The two will be tried together on August 18th.
NASCAR Returning to Iowa in 2027, Track Getting $20M In Upgrades
(Newton, IA) — NASCAR says it’s coming back to the Iowa Speedway in Newton next year, along with 20-million dollars in upgrades to the track. Upgrades will include a full track resurfacing and improved parking lots, suites, and midway display. NASCAR’s Iowa Corn 350 at the Iowa Speedway in Newton is Sunday.
