(Des Moines) The average price of regular unleaded gasoline in Iowa increased four cents over the past week, according to the latest AAA Weekly Fuel Report.
As of Wednesday, August 5, regular unleaded was averaging $3.79 per gallon across Iowa. That is 82 cents higher than the same time last year.
The national average was $4.08 per gallon Wednesday, down one cent from last week.
Iowa diesel prices also increased, rising 14 cents this week to an average of $5.11 per gallon. Diesel is currently 25 cents below the national average of $5.36, but remains well above Iowa’s year-ago average of $3.58.
Crude oil prices moved lower this week. West Texas Intermediate crude fell $9.37 per barrel to $75.61, while Brent crude dropped $11.01 to $79.52. A year ago, WTI was priced at $66.20 per barrel and Brent crude was $69.14.
Natural gas prices also declined four cents at the Henry Hub reporting site, reaching $2.69 per million British thermal units.
AAA says it will resume reporting Iowa retail heating oil and propane prices in October.
