(Harlan) The Harlan City Council has approved a new policy governing conference, training and event registrations for city officials and employees.
The policy was developed to discuss spending while also providing greater transparency regarding the costs associated with attending conferences, trainings and other events.
Harlan City Administrator Gervas Mgonja noted that any funds not spent will go back into the General Fund for the next budget cycle.
In other action, the Council approved a resolution setting salaries for appointed officers and employees of the City of Harlan for Fiscal Year 2026-27.
The Council also approved payment number three for the River Access project to Christensen Bros., Inc., in the amount of $95,788.16.
The Council approved a recommendation to change the gravel at the River Access project from Class C to Class D, at a cost not to exceed $10,000.
The Council also approved the Iowa Department of Transportation’s 2026 Street Finance Report.
