(Orange City, IA) — A fatal crash occurred at 5:49 am on the rural intersection of Highway 10 and Hickory Ave in Sioux County just east of Orange City on Thursday.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, a 2018 Dodge Charger was travelling westbound on Highway 10 and a 2006 Chevy Impala was going eastbound on the same road. A 2020 Kenworth Tractor Trailer was also going westbound on Highway 10. The Dodge attempted to pass the truck and collided head on with the Chevy with the rear striking the driver door of the truck and the Charger became fully engulfed in flames.
The drivers of both cars were pronounced deceased at the scene — the driver of the Dodge Charger was 19 year old Lazaro Martin of Orange City while the driver of the Chevy was 53 year old Jeffrey Lahr of Westfield.
The driver of the truck was Dennis Mattheis, 39 years old of Paulina and was uninjured.
The crash remains under investigation.
