(Atlantic) The Atlantic City Council has approved a resolution setting a public hearing on an amendment to the city’s Urban Renewal Plan related to a new manufacturing project.
City Administrator John Lund said Jim LaPorte, owner of Mudslayer Manufacturing, plans to construct a 13,920-square-foot building at a tentative address of 1501 W. 15th Street. The facility will serve as an assembly location for parts produced at two other Iowa facilities.
The project is expected to create between five and 10 new jobs. The proposed site is a 3.2-acre property west of Sunnyside Lane, east of SW 7th Street and behind Hoffman’s new veterinary care center.
Construction is contingent on a development and minimum assessment agreement that would help finance the extension of 15th Street, along with stormwater, sanitary sewer and water improvements. Snyder & Associates estimates the improvements will cost approximately $264,150.
The city plans to use tax increment financing, or TIF, to recover eligible project costs. Up to $300,000 would be borrowed from the General Fund to pay for the improvements, with repayment over a period of up to 15 years. The proposed interest rate is 4.5 percent.
The Planning and Zoning Commission approved the site plan June 9, while the Personnel and Finance Committee approved the proposed TIF structure June 23.
The public hearing is set for September 2nd at 5:30 p.m.
In other action, the Council approved the 2025 Concrete Street Improvements Project, reflecting as-built quantities for the project, as well as pay application #6 for $40,270.96 to Bluff’s Paving for the 2025 Concrete Street Improvement Project.
City Administrator John Lund also discussed House File 2490, which changes the posting requirements for meeting agendas. Lund said most of the city’s practices will not change, but they will have to change how they post agendas on the city website.
At the next City Council meeting, the council will formally designate the posting locations, which will be the city’s normal locations, including the left window in the front lobby entrance.
