(Council Bluffs) A construction worker was injured after becoming trapped in an elevator at the Google South construction site in Council Bluffs Monday evening.
The Council Bluffs Fire Department says at 5:08 p.m. Monday, Council Bluffs Fire and Police, Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s Office, and Iowa State Patrol responded to an unknown traumatic injury at 10410 Bunge Ave (Google South) in Council Bluffs. A call was received by 911 from a construction supervisor that was not a Google employee but was a contractor, that one of the contracted employees had been injured.
The first responding units arrived within eight minutes and the site front gate security had not been notified of an incident. Fire crews, security, 911, and law enforcement worked together to get information from the caller and finally after six minutes security was able to locate the caller and direct crews to the patient.
Within 10 minutes of arrival of crews at the entrapment, the construction worker was removed from the entrapment and treated by personnel for his injuries. He was stabilized and moved to the ambulance and transported to the medical helicopter at a nearby landing zone.
Life-Net helicopter received the patient and transported him to Nebraska Medicine Trauma Center in Omaha for continued care. The total time from the call to 911 to the patient arriving at the trauma center was 57 minutes.
