(Oakland, IA) — The Class 2A softball playoffs continue tonight as top ranked Riverside hosts Nodaway Valley in Region 4.
The Wolverines avenged a 10-1 loss to West Central Valley in May with a 14-6 win over the Wildcats on Wednesday, Nodaway led 5-4 when they got a 6 run 5th inning to put the game away. Senior Emma Boswell is having an All State type of season, hitting .507, 8 HR, and 31 RBI. Co Head Coach Ryan Zenor says she is doing it with people pitching around her
In the circle, Coach Zenor’s daughter Ellie Zenor — an 8th grader — has become the number one pitcher. In 23 games and 14 starts this year, Zenor has a 3.01 ERA with 100 strikeouts in 93 innings pitched. Coach Zenor says she has worked hard at it
Zenor says Ellie will pitch against Riverside and it will be the toughest line up she has faced — Coach and Dad Zenor says she needs to hit her spots
Riverside is coming off a 9-1 win over AC/GC in 5 innings — after a slow start, the Bulldog bats got going against the change up of Sophomore Megan Underwood. Head Coach Darrell Frain has confidence in whatever is thrown at his team
Against the Chargers, Riverside starter Peyton Schafer gave up a walk and a double to start the game but then settled down and retired the next 9 in a row. She only gave up two hits the rest of the game and they were both infield singles. Frain says she is dangerous if she throws certain pitches for strikes
Nodaway Valley is 14-13; Riverside is 24-5; game time is at 7 pm tonight in Oakland.
