(Guthrie Center, IA) — Interstate 35 came to AC/GC and swept a doubleheader — winning 11-1 and 13-1 with both games in five innings.
The Road Runners used an 8 run 4th inning in Game One to take control.
Kale Murphy hit a solo HR to start the scoring in the first inning and then I-35 sent 13 batters to the plate in the 4th. The Road Runners only got 4 hits in the inning and they were not hit very hard but the Chargers committed three errors in the half inning and starter Cal Clark had trouble locating his fastball and he walked two including one with the bases loaded. Zach Masters got a RBI bloop hit against a drawn in infield, Beau Dodds got a 2 run single, Taite Fitch added a RBI base hit and Jayden McDonald and Jace Maxwell each had sac flies.
Trailing 9-0, AC/GC got their only run in the 5th when I-35 starter Bryce Jelsma hit both Colton Clark and Sayer Bireline-Huss with one out and Bryce Benda drove in Clark with a RBI grounder.
Gauge Gaskill ended the game with a walkoff 2 run HR for the 10 run rule — the Road Runners were the home team in game one.
In game two, Colton Clark was the starter and got out of a jam in the first inning but I-35 sent 9 batters to the plate in the 2nd and scored 5 runs on only one hit — Clark walked three in the inning and hit a batter. AC/GC also had two errors to help the Road Runners. Murphy hit a RBI double and Jack Glenn drove in two runs on a fielders choice.
Three Charger pitchers combined for 9 walks in game two as the Road Runners scored 4 more in the 4th and 5th innings.
Zach Masters for I-35 allowed one unearned run on five hits, walked two and struck out 5 to get the win.
Interstate 35 Head Coach Blake Jobe got his 100th win in the doubleheader.
