(Des Moines) The National Weather Service issued a Flood Watch for all of southwest Iowa and the listening-area counties of Audubon and Guthrie from this afternoon through Friday morning.
Forecasters are warning that thunderstorms are expected to increase in coverage this afternoon and continue into tonight, bringing the potential for heavy rainfall and flash flooding across portions of the area.
Storms may repeatedly move over the same locations, producing high rainfall rates over a short period. Although soils have been relatively dry recently, rainfall intensity could exceed the ground’s ability to absorb water quickly enough, increasing the risk of flash flooding.
The threat may be greatest in portions of Adair, Greene, and Taylor counties, where rainfall has already occurred during the past several days.
Rainfall totals of 2 to 4 inches are expected by sunrise Friday, with isolated locations potentially receiving even higher amounts.
There is also a risk of severe thunderstorms that could produce large hail, tornadoes, and damaging winds.

Friday brings another chance of severe weather, with heavy rain and damaging winds.
