(Red Oak) A Red Oak teen was charged following an accident in Red Oak early Saturday morning.
The Red Oak Police Department says officers were dispatched to 1500 E. Coolbaugh Street at 3:30 a.m. for a vehicle that had struck a house and a parked vehicle. Upon arrival, a 2009 Ford F-150 truck was found sitting on its driver’s side. The teen driver stated he was going too fast, missed the turn, drove up a driveway, and struck the residence and a vehicle parked in the driveway.
The teen said he was traveling between 35 and 40 mph in a 25 mph zone while driving south on Eastern Avenue, which then turns west into Coolbaugh Street. The truck struck the front porch of the residence and then flipped onto its driver’s side while also striking the passenger-side rear of the parked vehicle.
During the investigation, the teen appeared to be under the influence of alcohol or other drugs. When speaking with the homeowners, officers were told that four or five other individuals had crawled out of the truck and fled on foot before officers arrived on scene.
The 16-year-old male was charged with OWI First Offense, and cited for Failure to Reduce Speed, Failure to Provide Proof of Financial Liability, and Violation of Instruction Permit Limitation.
The other occupants of the truck were later located, and no injuries were reported.
Damage to the front porch of the home was estimated at $10,000. Damage to the parked vehicle was estimated at $1,500, and damage to the Ford F-150 was estimated at $5,000.
