(Manhattan, KS) — Iowa St. women’s basketball overcame a halftime deficit to beat Kansas St. 93-79 in a Big 12 game on Sunday.
ISU was leading 28-22 early in the 2nd quarter but the Wildcats went on a 12-0 run before Kenzie Hare hit a triple, K-St’s Aniya Foy answered back with a three of her own and the Wildcats led 43-37 at the half.
Audi Crooks hit a lay up to start the 2nd half and Addy Brown followed with a short jumper to cut the lead to two. After Brandie Harrod got a lay up for Kansas St., Hare hit another triple to cut the lead to one. ISU went back to Crooks who put her team ahead 46-45. The teams traded leads for the next five minutes; with ISU trailing 58-55, the Cyclones closed out the third quarter with a 10-4 run to lead 65-62.
Tess Heal opened the 4th quarter for Kansas St. with a triple to tie the game at 65-65 but Arianna Jackson nailed a triple in the corner to go back up by three. Leading 71-70, Iowa St. went on a 9-0 run to take control with Williams and Crooks doing the damage. The Wildcats cut the lead to 80-74 with 4:40 remaining but Williams made a short jumper and then added a triple. Crooks hit two free throws to put the Cyclones up 13 and they closed it out.
Crooks had a monster 41 points to lead Iowa St. (22-8, 10-8) on 16 of 19 shooting and 9 of 9 from the free throw line. Williams added 23 points. Addy Brown had 7 points and 14 rebounds.
Kansas St. (15-16, 8-10) was led by Speiser with 17 points off the bench.
Iowa St. is the seven seed in the Big 12 women’s tournament and will play the winner of #10 Arizona St. v. #15 Arizona. The game will be on Thursday, March 5 at 5:30 pm.
