(Des Moines, IA) — It has been an incredible run for the Riverside boys basketball team in the playoffs and they look to keep it going tonight battling Ft. Dodge St. Emond in the substate finals, coverage on KSOM.
Riverside is 14-10 but destroyed Stanton 70-27 in the first round; then upset #1 seed Southwest Valley 56-52 and then knocked off Bedford 55-42. Bulldogs Head Coach Nick Kroon says that their tough conference schedule prepared them for this run
Riverside is led by Junior Peyton Amdor who is averaging 17.1 ppg for the season but in the playoffs is averaging over 21 points a game. Kroon says Amdor is doing more than just looking to shoot the three
St. Edmond is 22-2 and legendary head coach Adolph Kochendorfer is in his last season before retirement. Kochendorfer is one of 20 Iowa coaches with over 600 career victories and over 500 wins with the Gaels. St. Edmond lost in the finals last year to Madrid and has dominated their way to this game — beating West Hancock 75-36; stopping Earlham 75-51 and blowing out Ankeny Christian in the district finals 78-58. They are led by 6-5 Senior Hunter Horn who averages 26.3 ppg and Kroon says he is fun to watch on film
