(Carroll, IA) — Cal Heydon is one of the best players in the state and he showed in the District Finals on Tuesday night. Heydon and Coon Rapids Bayard stormed past Audubon 74-48 to win the District 15 title and move to the Substate Finals.
The Crusaders led the entire game — racing out to a 16-2 start sparked by three first quarter threes from Bryce Lewis and 6 points in the paint from Heydon. The Senior had 15 points int the first half as CRB led 22-8 after the first quarter and 45-26 at the half.
Coon Rapids Bayard (23-1) slowed things down in the third quarter while Audubon tried to get back in it but went only 5-13 from the field in the third period and the Crusaders hit three threes to actually extend their lead to 60-38.
Heydon led the way with a game high 29 points while Lewis added 14. Ty Heydon and Gavin Heidersheit each had 8 points. Coon Rapids Bayard will play Boyden Hull on Saturday night at Sioux City East High School in the Substate Finals.
Audubon (15-10) was led by Carson Wessel with 13 points while Austin Christensen added 8.
The Wheelers will lose eight seniors — Brody Schultes, Carson Wessel, Austin Christensen, Brody Weber, Orm Voight, Ryan Hermansen, Sullivan McClain and Walter Vetter.
