(Elk Horn, IA) — Exira EHK advanced to the Class 1A Regional semifinals with a 57-33 win over Griswold on Tuesday night.
The Tigers gave the Spartans fits but Exira EHK’s defense was too much and Griswold committed way too many turnovers.
Exira EHK came out with a pressure defense and Griswold could only go 3-6 from the field in the first quarter as the Spartans built a 19-9 lead. Despite three threes by the Tigers in the 2nd quarter, Exira EHK got buckets inside from Harlow Miller and drives from Taryn Petersen to lead 33-18 at the half.
Griswold got it as close as 12 in the third quarter — it was 39-27 but the Spartans closed the quarter on a 6-0 run and the Tigers could get no closer.
Taryn Petersen led Exira EHK (20-1) with 18 points while Jaelynn Petersen had 10. Exira EHK will play CAM in the regional semifinals on Friday night — the Cougars beat Bedford 55-40. Coverage of the game on KS 95.7 FM.
Griswold (12-11) was led by Amanda Houser with 20 points while Carsyn Adams added 9.
