(Atlantic) Atlantic started fast and never looked back in a 61-22 win over Denison-Schleswig in a Hawkeye Ten Conference Girls Basketball game at Atlantic on Friday night.
Ann Wessel knocked down an early three-point shot for the Monarchs, and the Trojans responded with a 29-0 run to lead 38-7 at the Half. Atlantic Head Coach Dan Vargason credits the defensive effort for the quick start.
The Trojans six-foot post player, Katrina Williams, led the charge with 18 points.
Atlantic led 48-16 at the end of the third quarter, and closed out the game 61-22. The Trojans had an impressive night at the free-throw line, making 11-13, and held the Monarchs to single-digits in each of the four quarters.
Zoey Kirchhoff scored 15 points, Jillian Saathoff scored 9, Makenna Schroeder added eight, Brynn Lamp scored 6, Peyton McLaren scored 3, and Leighton Wailes scored 2.
Ann Wessel led the Monarchs with 9 points, all from beyond the three-point line, Sara Munn had 7, Lauren Lambert 4, and Monroe Bygness chipped in 2.
The Trojans improve their record to 11-8 on the season, and finish off the regular season with a game at Harlan on Tuesday, February 10. Denison-Schleswig falls to 1-19 and faces Carroll at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, and finishes off the regular season at Glenwood on February 13.
