(Atlantic) Approximately 20 people peacefully gathered along Highway 6 between Chestnut and Poplar St. in Atlantic at 2:00 pm. on Tuesday to be a part of over 500 rallies throughout the United States.
According to the press release from Denise O’Brien, “those gathered practiced their freedom of speech to protest President Trump’s plan to take control of Greenland and to voice their concern that billionaires, big oil, and big business are receiving tax breaks while others struggle to pay higher prices for groceries and electricity. The violent actions of ICE have also raised concerns.”
The Free America rally was sponsored by the Women’s March 2026. The Women’s March adheres to a policy of nonviolence in all activities it sponsors.
Meanwhile, Sioux City Students Protest ICE In Nationwide Walkout
Students at North High School took part in a nationwide student walkout on Tuesday. About 150 students gathered in front of the school around 2:00 p.m., chanting “no more ICE” and holding signs. The walkout comes amid protests throughout Minnesota after an ICE agent killed 37-year-old Renee Good on January 7th. The Sioux City School District is one of the most diverse in Iowa, with a 42-percent Hispanic/Latino student body. District protocols allow students to protest for 30 minutes before being marked absent.
