(Atlantic) This past week, the first of two homes through the Homes for Iowa Program was delivered to Anita. Chris Parks, Communications Coordinator for the Southwest Iowa Planning Council, said the organization was pleased to serve as the liaison connecting the City of Anita with the program.
Parks says the Homes for Iowa Program started in conjunction with the Iowa Prison Industries. The inmates are building these pre-fabricated homes, which are purchased by various entities
Parks says the two homes going into Anita are executed by the Anita Development Corporation. They are paying for the process and will sell the homes to interested parties within the community.
Since its founding, HFI has trained over 500 crew members and moved 126 houses to over 40 counties in Iowa. Over 100 crew members have earned trade certificates. The program’s lifetime recidivism rate is only 6.1%.
All HFI homes are built at the building site near the Newton Correctional Release facility and delivered directly onto the buyer’s foundations. There are four different home plans, all under $110,000.
