(Atlantic) Harlan opened up the game in the third quarter, leading to an 80-60 victory over Atlantic in a Hawkeye Ten Conference boys’ basketball matchup on Friday night.
The Trojans kept the game competitive early on, trailing 23-21 at the end of the first quarter and 37-32 at halftime. Kobe Klaasen led the Cyclones in the first half, hitting two three-pointers and scoring a total of ten points. Cole Koesters contributed from the bench with two three-point shots. Hudson McLaren, who had scored 18 points in a previous game against Clarinda, continued his strong performance with 15 points in the first half, helping to keep the Trojans in the contest.
Harlan increased their intensity in the third quarter, outscoring the Trojans 23-12. Koesters made his third three-pointer, while Kreed Boggess added five points off the bench. The Cyclones maintained their scoring advantage in the final quarter, outpacing Atlantic 20-16 to secure the 80-60 win.
Kobe Klaasen was the top scorer for the Cyclones with 21 points. Gabe Arkfeld and Dallas McDowell each added 10 points, while Cole Koesters scored 9. Fox Argotsinger and Colton Schneider each contributed 8 points.
Hudson McLaren led Atlantic with 21 points, followed by Gavin McLaren with 11 points, Benton McLaren with 10, Kale Jensen with 7, and James Brauer, Sawyer Tarrell, and Gage Gross each with 3 points. Corbin Ritter chipped in 2 points.
With this win, Harlan improves to 4-6, while Atlantic falls to 2-10. The Trojans will host Red Oak on Tuesday, and Harlan will play at home against Kuemper on Monday.
