(Atlantic) Atlantic’s defense shut down Harlan in the second half, leading to a 52-34 victory in a girls’ basketball game on Friday night at Atlantic.
The Trojans’ 6’0 senior post player, Katrina Williams, led the team with 19 points. Freshman Madison McLaren added 12 points, and senior guard Makenna Schroeder contributed nine points. Peyton McLaren and Jillian Saathoff each scored four points, while Tessa O’Brien and Jayden Franken chipped in two points each. Atlantic Head Coach Dan Vargason pointed out the Trojans shot 60-percent from the field.
The Cyclones kept the game within reach in the first half, thanks to Addition Wicks, who hit three shots from beyond the arc. However, Harlan struggled to counter Atlantic’s standout, Katrina Williams, who scored 12 points in the first half, helping the Trojans gain a 25-19 lead.
The Trojans dominated the second half. Madison McLaren made a three-point shot with 2:25 left in the third quarter, extending the lead to 33-23. By the end of the third period, the Trojans led 37-23, while holding the Cyclones to just four points.
The Trojans improve to 7-7 and host Red Oak on Tuesday. The Cyclones fall to 4-7, and host Kuemper on Monday night.
