(Carroll) Kuemper’s sharp outside shooting sparked the Knights to a 60-41 victory over Atlantic in girls’ basketball action on Friday night at Kuemper.
The Knights made 10 three-point shots during the game. Kaylie Simons and Elsa Tiefenthaler led the Knights, each scoring 19 points. Simons hit five three-pointers, while Tiefenthaler made two. Charlotte Hackfort contributed 11 points, including two three-pointers. Morgan Mashing added 4 points, and Caitlyn Yetmar, Addy Anthofer, and Alivia Schenkleberg each scored 2 points.
Nine players scored for the Trojans, with Makenna Schroeder leading the way with 9 points, all from behind the three-point line. Kaitlyn Hickman achieved a season-high 8 points, including two three-pointers. Katrina Williams scored 6 points, and Jillian Saathoff added 5 points. Dylin Ball contributed 4 points, while Zoey Kirchhoff, Madison McLaren, Peyton McLaren, and Brynn Lamp each chipped in with 2 points.
The Knights jumped out to an 8-0 lead and built an 11-2 advantage midway through the first quarter. The Trojans fought back, outscoring Kuemper 9-5 down the stretch, led by long-range shots from Schroeder and Hickman, and trailed 16-11 at the end of the first quarter. Kuemper extended their lead to 39-26 at halftime, thanks to the pinpoint shooting from Simons and Tiefenthaler, who finished the half with 15 and 13 points, respectively.
Kuemper maintained a 51-34 lead after three quarters and closed out the game with a final score of 60-41.
With this win, Kuemper improves to 6-3 on the season, while Atlantic falls to 6-6.
