(Denison) Historically, the data over the past three-quarters of a century show that New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, despite all the speculation about them, have been. Iowa State Patrol Trooper and District #4 Public Information Officer, Shelby McCreedy, had a safe holiday in the State of Iowa.
Trooper McCreedy says the fatality rate is low compared to other holidays, mainly because people take more responsibility. McCreedy mentions another factor.
McCreedy says it is easier in the cities because of the many different programs. They offer ride-sharing services, including Uber, and other programs to help people avoid getting behind the wheel. She says it becomes a little more challenging in the rural areas.
McCreedy says for people ringing in the new year, the Iowa State Patrol is encouraging them to take advantage of the opportunities in their area for a safe ride home.
