(Atlantic) The Iowa High School Athletic Association released its first set of team rankings last week, and the Trojans are undefeated in duals with a 5-0 record, placing them 18th.
Atlantic Head Coach Tim Duff mentioned that the IHSAA uses these rankings to set up the team duals, emphasizing the team’s goal of having a strong dual squad.
Jayden Harter (157 pounds) leads the team with a record of 20-5 and has achieved 91 career wins, placing him in a favorable position to reach the milestone of 100 wins in the second half of the season.
Keaton Schroeder (120 pounds) has a record of 19-6, while Braxton Hass (132 pounds) stands at 19-3.
Dreven Smith (165 pounds), Donovan Hedrington (190 pounds), and Dayton Van Horne (106 pounds) have each secured 18 wins, with Hedrington nearing a personal milestone of 99 career wins.
Another standout athlete is Landon Hagen (138 pounds), who has also started the season strong.
Travin Thomas (215 pounds) has made an impression, finishing as the runner-up at the Jim Kinyon Wrestling Tournament hosted by Roland Story on December 20.
Coach Duff noted that Carter Hadley (144 pounds) is close to taking the next step in his performance, currently holding a record of 13-11. Cooper Woolsey (285 pounds) has 12 wins, and Coach Duff commented on the competitiveness of the last week and a half.
Kalvin Hayes (150 pounds) has limited competition due to injury, but has secured nine wins and is expected to round back into form. Callan Kluever (175 pounds), freshman Hunter Kinzie (126 pounds), and returning state qualifier Collin Harris (113 pounds), who has been battling illness, each have five wins. D’art Hansen has contributed with two varsity wins while working in a utility role.
The Trojans will kick off the second half of the season at the Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont Dual Tournament on January 3.
