(Washington D.C.) Iowa Congressman Zach Nunn is taking steps to force action on a bipartisan plan to ban stock trading by federal lawmakers. Recently, Nunn signed a discharge petition to bring the Restore Trust in Congress Act to the House floor, a move that would bypass leadership and require a vote once it reaches 218 signatures.
Nunn, who represents Iowa’s 3rd District, said the bill would bar members of Congress, their spouses, and dependent children from owning or trading individual stocks.
Nunn said this bill would do some pretty basic things…
A University of Maryland survey in 2023 found that 86% of Americans support a congressional stock-trading ban.
Nunn has made the issue central to his tenure. After his election, he sold all individual stock holdings and has since introduced several reform measures, including the Prohibit Insider Trading Act in 2023 and the No Corruption in Government Act in 2025. In September, he joined a bipartisan coalition to introduce the Restore Trust in Congress Act, which consolidates earlier reform efforts into a single bill.
