John Lowell Frank was born on May 30, 1941, the son of Lowell and Francis Elaine (Wilbourne) Frank in rural Bridgewater, Iowa. He passed away on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at the Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa, at the age of 84.
John worked hard running equipment for Schildberg Construction for many years before moving to Gillette, Wyoming in 1980, working at Thunder Basin Coal Mine. He started out driving haul trucks and when he retired in 2004, he was running the dozer on the Dragline. John enjoyed working at the mine (except for the rotating shifts) and made many friends there and all over Gillette. John was passionate about the great outdoors, riding snowmobiles, dirt bikes, his Harley Davidson, four wheelers and loved to hunt.
John married Pat Comstock in June of 1960 and became a proud dad of Johnny and three daughters, Teresa, Ladonna and Constance. He and Pat later divorced and in June of 1978, he married Barbara Barclay Davison in Omaha, Nebraska and gained three more daughters, Darlene, Deborah and Doris.
John always enjoyed the trips he and Barb would take and visits with family and friends. He was an avid reader and lover of all things guns and firearms. But John never met a stranger, always could talk to anyone.
John and Barb were married 32 years when Barb passed away. So, he learned quickly how to cook, do laundry and clean house and he always had his faithful dogs by his side. He enjoyed people stopping by as he would get lonely.
He was preceded in death by his parents; maternal grandparents paternal grandparents; son, Johnny Frank; wife Barbara Frank; and mother and father-in-law.
He is survived by his children, Theresa Hurley (Mike), Ladonne Harrison (Randy), Constance Rilling (Dennis), Darlene Davison, Debbie Wieseler (Jerry), Doris Walz (Kevin), and Jennifer Welsch (Brett); sister, Sheryl Chapman; several grandchildren; his best friend Sassy; other relatives and friends.
