(Guthrie Center, IA) — Every year that AC/GC has come into existence, the school has had someone compete at the state cross country meet. That record will stay intact this year as Senior Cadence Petersen and Junior Preston Kent both qualified for state on their home course last Thursday. It was not a sure thing, however, and both girls and boys got off to a slow start this season. Head Coach Rick Blake says both runner had been improving all season and it all came together on Thursday
Petersen is involved in other things besides cross country — she is involved in dance and is also preparing for wrestling season but Blake says she has persevered through the season
Kent on the other hand has worked exclusively at cross country and Blake says he has worked hard in his running shoes during the off season
The Class 1A races are this Saturday in Fort Dodge — the girls race is at 2 pm and the boys race at 2:45 pm.
