(Oakland) Patrons in the Riverside School District will vote on a Physical Plant and Equipment Levy (PPEL) on November 4th that would allow the district to make significant progress on the needs identified in a recent Facilities Assessment Report.
Riverside Superintendent Dr. Stephanie Anderson said PPEL is a voter-approved levy that generates funds schools may use for infrastructure and equipment repairs, purchases, and improvements. Funds may be used only for these purposes and cannot be spent on salaries or instructional programming.
Dr. Anderson said that, with this funding, the district would like to review the projects recommended in the facilities study, create a detailed list, and determine which projects to pursue.
If the voted PPEL is approved by a majority of voters, the levy would be in place through 2036 at a rate of $1.34 per $1,000 of assessed property value.
Dr. Anderson said more information about the PPEL is available on the district’s website at riversideschools.org. The site includes a tax calculator, FAQs, and additional details. She added that if you don’t find what you’re looking for, you are encouraged to reach out so the district can provide accurate answers to your questions.
