(Clive) The Iowa Pork Producers Association has named Hometown Heroes of Grinnell the winner of the 2025 Iowa’s Best Breaded Pork Tenderloin Contest.
Located on Main Street in downtown Grinnell, the restaurant is owned by Paul and Kalyn Durr and partners Shannon and Todd Reding. Paul Durr, who also serves as executive chef, said the honor is “both humbling and exciting” for the team.
Judge Phil Carey praised the sandwich for its tenderness, seasoning, and balance, calling it “a great sandwich” and “hard to beat.”
Hometown Heroes, which opened in 2019, celebrates local pride with décor honoring athletes, first responders, and community heroes. The restaurant will receive $500, a plaque, and a banner in recognition of the award.
The 1854 in Gilbertville was named runner-up. Other finalists included Dexfield Diner & Pub in Redfield, Sugar’s Lounge & Diner in Council Bluffs, and Walker’s in Salix.
The annual contest highlights Iowa restaurants that feature hand-breaded pork tenderloins, with winners announced each October during National Pork Month.
