(Logan, IA) — The playoffs actually start a week early for Logan Magnolia’s football team. This week, the Panthers host Akron Westfield and the winner will be the 4th seed out of Class A, District 8 — the loser will not make the post-season. Woodbury Central will play St. Albert for the district title and the loser will be the #2 seed and IKM Manning has clinched the #3 seed in the district.
For the last 5 weeks, Brodie Davis has been the quarterback since replacing Ashton Peszulik in a week two win over Missouri Valley. Peszulik is healthier now but may not get cleared to play until later this week. That leaves a decision for Head Coach Matt Straight — continue with Davis who has played well or go back to Peszulik who has not played in over a month
Akron Westfield is coming into this game having lost 4 in a row while the Panthers have lost 2 in a row so something has to give. The Westerners played St. Albert close last week before losing 14-7 — their offense has only scored 21 points in the last 4 games. Akron is led by Sophomore QB Kaleb Johnson who leads the team in rushing with 448 yards and has passed for 536 yards with 5 TD but 9 INT. Straight is impressed with the way he can turn something out of nothing
Straight has not been 100 percent happy with his running game — just 60 yards against Woodbury Central and only 19 yards against IKM Manning — so he flipped a switch.
Straight hopes everything can come together for Lo Ma against Akron Westfield
Playoff berth on the line as 2-5 Akron Westfield visits 4-3 Logan Magnolia.
