(Anita, IA) — The two favorites in 8 Man District 9 will collide tonight as #5 Audubon visits CAM, coverage on KSOM and Western Iowa Today TV.
The game is not for the district title but the winner will have the upper hand the rest of the season. Audubon has been nearly unstoppable in their first three games, winning by a combined score of 224-33. The answer to the question “Who is the Quarterback at Audubon?” is kind of a two part question. Sophomore Aiden Kjergaard has taken the majority of the snaps this year because of the injury to Senior Carson Wessel. He is now healthy again so both players will take snaps and mix in Sophomore Mason Kasperbauer and Head Coach Sean Birks has options with others in the mix as well
Both teams will want to run the football tonight — Kjergaard currently leads Audubon with 341 yards and 7 TD but Wessel had 128 yards and 4 TD last week. If the running game is not there, the Wheelers will have to throw it and they have just 11 pass attempts this season. Birks says if their backs are against the wall, they have the ability to go in the air
CAM has a new Head Coach in Nick Kauffman but Birks still sees the same old Cougar football team
Wheelers Senior Carson Wessel says that this is a special game that the Wheelers circle on the schedule every year
CAM is coming off a 50-48 road win at Bedford — Senior Collin Bower ran for 202 yards and 5 TD plus caught 3 passes for 58 yards and another score. Kayden Winther had 4 catches for 74 yards and a TD. Kason Calhoun had 17 tackles on defense. Head Coach Nick Kauffman says the defense did not get worn down by the Bulldogs running game and got better as the game wore on
Kauffman says that winning last week has done wonders for CAM’s confidence
Kauffman says you have to be impressed with the skill guys that Audubon rolls out each Friday night but he is even more impressed with the big eaters up front
Collin Bower says its a big game, a big rivalry and he is glad its in his backyard
