(Atlantic) The Atlantic School Board approved a resolution calling an election on the issuance of $22.5 million in general obligation school bonds.
Board Chair Laura McLean explained that the $22.5 million general obligation bond referendum is for improvements and expansion projects at Washington Elementary, Schuler Elementary, Atlantic Middle School, and Atlantic High School.
The School Board also voted to place the field house project as a ballot question on the November election, pursuant to the petition received. This is in regards to the proposed issuance of approximately $18.5 million school infrastructure sales, services, and use tax revenue bonds. The school board proposes to use the sales tax bond, repaid with state sales tax revenue (not local property taxes), to build a multipurpose indoor practice facility at the high school. It would be used for academics during the day and for student and community activities at other times, helping address limited gym space and expanding access for all grades.
The School Board unanimously voted to order an election.
Prior to the meeting, the Board held a moment of silence for 12-year-old Brynley Rae Lank who passed away on Wednesday.
