(Adair Co.) The Adair County Board of Supervisors discussed funding options for the proposed new pool in the City of Greenfield.
Last week, Renee Schwartz, with the Greenfield Pool Steering Committee, told the Adair County Board of Supervisors that the Greenfield City Council voted in favor of putting a bond referendum on the November 4th election ballot for a new pool. She said the committee has spent nearly three years researching pool projects in other towns, as well as evaluating options for repairing or rebuilding Greenfield’s aging facility. Schwartz said the committee has raised some money but still needs significant funding. She asked the Supervisors to consider whether the county could commit financial support to the project.
Auditor Mandy Berg said they had a phone conference Tuesday with Ahlers & Cooney to review funding options. She said if they were to bond, the project would have to be deemed an essential purpose and currently this project is not.
Berg said that if they were to do that, they would need a joint agreement with the City of Greenfield, and it would take about three to four months to amend and adopt it into the Urban Renewal Plan. This could be done regardless of whether the City proceeds with the pool project or not. After those three to four months, bonding could take place as early as next spring or summer.
Another option discussed was LOST.
The Supervisors plan to wait and see how the Greenfield referendum turns out before moving forward.
