(Griswold) Griswold Schools Superintendent Dave Henrichs began Monday’s school board meeting with a staffing report. He stated that the district is well-prepared to start the school year. However, he noted three open positions: a para-educator, a school nurse, and a middle school football coach.
During the meeting, the school board accepted the resignations of school nurse Christina McClain, accompanist Kate Sorensen, and Scott Robinson, a para-professional at the middle and high school. Additionally, Karla Wilson will transition from her role as an elementary para-professional to become the counselor’s secretary. The school board also approved the hiring of Natalie Bierbaum as the Communications Director, a new position.
In the old business section of the agenda, the school board approved a contract for concussion testing with Sway Medical. Henrichs explained that a physician must evaluate any athlete suspected of having a concussion. He emphasized that the baseline testing has proven beneficial for students, not only for their return to athletics but also for their return to learning after a concussion.
The district previously employed a system where students took a baseline test on a computer. Henrichs says if a student happened to have a concussion, it would compare the results. He said it is a lengthy test, and can take up to 45 minutes per student, and the baseline data is not always readily available.
On Monday, the school board voted to implement the Sway Medical program for all students in grades 7 through 12. The price quote is under $1,000.00.
In other business, Henrichs reported that the June 7 surplus auction brought in proceeds of $3,228.20 after commission.
The School Board also approved the following appointments:
* Business Manager, and Treasurer-Dan Rold
*Board Secretary, Hannah Bierbaum
*District Attorney, Matt Hanson
*Affirmative Action Coordinator, Seth Lempke
