(Guthrie Center, IA) — AC/GC girls basketball came close to achieving their goals of making it to the state tournament this season but they will have to settle for the greatest season in school history. The Chargers finished 22-2 — the only losses coming to state tournament teams Des Moines Christian and Eddyville Blakesburg Fremont who beat them in the regional finals. Head Coach Brad Baudler says that the team did a pretty good job of taking it game by game and win by win
The Chargers will only lose one senior but its their team leader Shay Lemke who Baudler says will leave a strong legacy at AC/GC
AC/GC will be pretty good next year with four starters returning including leading scorer Cam Richter. Baudler says that Karli Kautzky could inherit Lemke’s point guard spot but he says it could also be by committee. Sophomore Stella Largent and the juniors Richter, Kautzky and Becca Littler will no doubt reclaim their starting spots and there’s Sophomore Meranda Gruber and Nora Langgard plus Junior Olivia Mahaffey that could see an increase in their minutes. Baudler says he saw improvement last year; if he sees the same next year, there’s no telling how high they can go
Baudler says he is excited to see what the girls will work on in the off-season and AC/GC should be primed to contend for a state tournament spot again next year.
