(Harlan, IA) — It did not take long for Harlan High School to find a successor to long time Boys Basketball Head Coach Mitch Osborn. Assistant Dean Mosher has been promoted to the Head Coaching position — it is his first varsity coaching job and he takes the spot after just five years as an assistant in the Cyclones system.
Mosher is from Indiana and also spent time in his childhood in Sioux Center, IA — he played high school sports in Vincennes, Indiana but his Dad is from Harlan, his Mom taught at Harlan and he comes back to his parents roots to coach and teach Physical Education. He has coach 8th grade and Freshman boys basketball with the Cyclones and he knows it will be a daunting task to replace Osborn who is a legend in Harlan and in the state
Mosher played college football at Buena Vista — he went to college with Mitch Osborn’s son Kevin Osborn at BV. In his last five years, he says he has learned a lot from Coach Osborn and fully understands the history of success with not just the basketball team but all of Cyclone athletics
Harlan went a disappointing 9-13 this season with a first round exit in the playoffs — the Cyclones do return their top two scorers Dallas McDowell and Kobe Klaassen. Mosher says he knows they can score but he subscribes to a defensive first philosophy
Mosher says that Coach Osborn has offered his help in any way — he says that there a lot of little things that you have to deal with as the Head Coach and he will learn along the way and grow from it.
