St. Albert Tops Atlantic in Girl’s Hawkeye Ten Conference Basketball Game

The game kicked off slowly, with both teams finding it hard to put points on the board initially. The Saints broke the ice and surged to a 17-5 advantage by the start of the second quarter. Maura Ryan was pivotal, sinking two three-pointers, while both Molly Wise and Payton Johnson contributed with their own long-range shots. In response, the Trojans rallied at the end of the first half, going on a 10-5 run that brought the score to 22-15 at halftime.

Atlantic came out strong in the third quarter, launching a 9-0 run to take the lead at 24-22 and again at 28-24. Makenna Schroeder really found her rhythm in the second half, nailing four three-point shots. Atlantic Head Coach Dan Vargason says the team became much more relaxed in the second half.

Nevertheless, the Saints managed to reclaim the lead at 32-28 by the end of the third quarter and maintained control, ultimately extending their lead to 48-36 in the final frame before sealing the victory at 53-43.

Maura Ryan led the Saints with 16 points, Avah Underwood scored 10, and Alexa Lenz came off the bench and scored 8. Makenna Schroeder led Atlantic with 20 points, including five three-point baskets. Patyn Harter added 10, and Katrina Williams scored 8. Zoey Kirchhoff contributed, 3, and Peyton McLaren added two.
