(Red Oak, IA) — Results from the 1A Girls Wrestling Regional Tournament
Audubon: Freshman Macy Rasmussen is going to state as a regional champion, winning in the 115 finals 8-5. Senior Jordan Mulford will join her at state — winning in the wrestleback round by fall at 2:30. Elena Harbour was 4th at 140.
Harlan: Elle Stephens will go to state at 125 pounds in her freshman year — after losing to Molly Allen in the regional finals, Stephens got a break when Maddie McCoy of Clarinda won the third place match and Stephens beat hear in the semifinals.
Red Oak/Griswold: Paige Baier of Griswold finished in third place at 155 pounds — she lost in the wrestleback round. Abbi Henderson went 2-2 in the tournament. Red Oak will send Nicole Bond to state at 130 pounds who finished in 2nd place.
Riverside: Molly Allen will have a shot at a 4 peat — the Senior got two pins and then beat Elle Stephens of Harlan in the regional by TF to get another regional title. Hailey Harvey won first place at 110 pounds, winning 8-5 in the finals. Veronica Shechinger won first place at 120 pounds, pinning Destiny Fry of SWAT at 1:15. Jersey Hilgenberg won her wrestleback round at 100 pounds at 3:15 to finish in 2nd place. Sarah Cody was 3rd at 130, Ana Wilson 3rd at 140, McKenna Dorr 4th at 155.
SWAT: At 100 pounds, Jazz Christensen won the regional finals by fall at 3:14 over Jersey Hilgenberg of Riverside. At 120 pounds, Destiny Fry won in the wrestleback round by fall at 1:37 to finish 2nd place. At 145 pounds, Bailey Lillard will go to state on the injury rule over Kenzie Maeder of Southwest Valley. Ellen Gerlock won the 190 pound weight class — she won both her matches by fall at 5:00 and 5:52. In an upset, Stella Beattie was the two seed at 170 pounds but lost in the semifinals by fall at 4:31 and then lost in the consolation round to end her season. Nadia South was 3rd at 110, Megan Gerlock was 4th at 235.
