(Anita, IA) — The Girls Wrestling Regionals are tomorrow and SWAT is hoping to send a large contingent to this year’s state tournament but they will have to qualify first against tough competition in Red Oak. After every girls team was lumped together in one classification the last couple years, the IGHSAU has divided wrestling in 1A and 2A. SWAT is a 1A team and Head Coach Tyler South it actually has made the state qualifying process more difficult
SWAT seems to pretty strong in the lighter weights — Jazz Christensen is 33-9 at 100 pounds, Nadia South is 31-9 at 110, Destiny Fry is 29-11 at 115 and Lilliana Tafoya is 14-8 at 135 and South has confidence in them all
Sophomore Stella Beattie has had a great regular season, she is 36-3 at 170 and South says she has been super focused
Also for SWAT, Bailey Lillard is 24-4 at 145, Lilly Barber is 14-4 at 155, Ellen Gerlock is 24-5 at 190 and Megan Gerlock is 26-8 at 235. Overall, South says everyone has to be at their best Friday night or your season could be over
Other teams in Red Oak Friday include Audubon, Carroll, Clarinda, Clarke, Glenwood, Harlan, Interstate 35, Kuemper Catholic, Logan Magnolia/Woodbine, Missouri Valley, Panorama, Shenandoah, Southwest Iowa, Southwest Valley, and Treynor. The wrestling starts at 4 pm
