(Corning, IA) — Nodaway Valley heads south to face Southwest Valley in a Girls Boys Doubleheader, coverage on KSOM.
On the girls side, both teams might be better than what their record indicates. Nodaway Valley comes in at 6-10 led by Junior Izzy Eisbach who leads the entire state in scoring — as a matter of fact she has more points (517) than any other girl or guy. Eishbach averages 32.3 points a game and also leads the state with 62 three pointers made. While there doesn’t seem to be a problem scoring points, the Wolverines are looking for consistency in preventing points according to Head Coach Brian Eisbach
Nodaway Valley will face a Southwest Valley team that is 3-12 but can be dangerous with Hailey Randall leading the way, averaging 16.5 points a game. Randall is only shooting 24 percent on her three point shots but Eishbach says she is more dangerous trying to move to the basket
The Timberwolves won their first game of the year but then lost 9 in a row including a 65-57 loss to NV. Southwest has won 2 of their last three and Head Coach Mike Cormack says their decision making has gotten better
As for playing against Nodaway Valley, Cormack has a choice, double and even triple team Izzy Eisbach and dare the other players to beat you or play her straight up and try and limit her points the best you can
On the boys side, Nodaway Valley has continued to struggle with a 1-14 record. Senior Paul Berg averages 7.7 and Sophomore Ty Rardin has 7.5 points a game. Head Coach Mick Long has seen some development from freshmen Jack Berg and Titan Foster
The Timberwolves beat the Wolverines 73-33 on January 7th and Long says it will be a tough challenge again but he feels like his team is due for a turnaround
Southwest Valley comes with a 9-6 record — their point guard is Cael Hogan averaging 16.9 ppg plus there’s Alex Morgan at 14.9 ppg. Morgan gets his points in the paint while Hogan is averaging 38 percent on this threes and throw in Colton Pegg at 37 percent from beyond the arc. Head Coach Kyle Bashor feels like the three point shooting is a strength
The Wolverines are only 24.5 percent on their three point shooting so Bashor has to take away the inside game first
