(Des Moines, IA) Iowa Democrats are hopeful that tonight’s special election will help them challenge the Republican supermajority in the State Senate.
“It is really important to us, so we have been working on that race,” said Rita Hart Chair of the Iowa Democrats. “We are excited about our candidate, we think we have a great chance to win this seat, and we are hoping everyone gets to the polls.”
The Senate District 35 seat opened when Governor Kim Reynolds appointed then-Senator Chris Cournoyer as the state’s Lieutenant Governor. Democrat Mike Zimmer faces Republican Katie Whittington.
