(Atlantic) In 2024, the disc golf course at Sunnyside Park in Atlantic attracted visitors from 30 U.S. states and British Columbia, the UK, Canada, and New Zealand, according to UDisc, a leading disc golf app. Frank Saddlemire, of Atlantic, who developed the Sunnyside Disc Golf Course, recently appeared before the Atlantic Park and Recreation Commission. He highlighted the course’s growing popularity, noting that it is considered one of the top destinations in the country, according to the UDisc app.
Saddlemire explained that UDisc is a widely used app for discovering disc golf courses. Players often seek out highly rated and worth-visiting courses. Of the 4,000 courses in the United States, Saddlemire estimates that about 500 stand out as must-visit destinations, with the Atlantic course being one of them.
In 2024, the UDisc app reported that players from 30 states, as well as international visitors from New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and Canada, played at the Atlantic course. Saddlemire emphasized that the course has drawn an estimated 30,000 visitors since its inception in 2007, each contributing to the local economy in varying degrees.
Disc golf, which involves throwing discs into metal baskets, is similar to traditional golf but offers a more accessible and cost-effective form of recreation. The sport is promoted as a lifetime activity that is environmentally friendly and suitable for people of all ages and skill levels.
